Following Jesus — Reach > Grow > Go

Three banners. Three action words. One call. Live By His Spirit.

Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.   Philippians 3:12-14

What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of KNOWING CHRIST Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I want to KNOW CHRIST — yes, to know the power of his resurrection.  Philippians 3:8-10

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father…  that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being ROOTED & GROUNDED in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.  Ephesians 3:14-19

We are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves… ; but speaking the truth in love, we are to GROW UP in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love. Ephesians 4:14-16

God continually sends His people out in waves to serve their neighbor and community with respect, humility and love — even before they finish GROWING.  GO is critical to both REACH & GROW.  The three are concurrent, not sequential.

Central in all of Christ’s teaching was the assumption that to follow Him meant to become a participant in His Mission.   If we miss that central teaching of Jesus… we’ll miss over half of the New Testament.”
