Volunteer Opportunites

— filed under:

Volunteer opportunities for members of the body of Christ.

We have volunteer opportunities that suit different interests, gifts, and availability.  Some opportunities occur on a regular basis, others can be one-time assists.  Please prayerfully consider where and when you can help.

Matthew 10:42

And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.

Ephesians 5:19

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.  Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.

Handbell Choir

Handbells began in England for the purpose of practicing tower bells in some other way than having the whole town hear your mistakes.   White Chapel (same bell manufacturer that made our Liberty Bell) made a handbell for each tone represented in a town's bell tower.  The bells were taken to a mutual place and the tower ringers practiced their Sunday morning ringing. Tower ringing is only a numerical method of ringing.   When bells came to the United States we began to ring tunes and hymns. And so it began. Our bells are called English Handbells.  We now have two manufacturing companies making handbells in the state of Pennsylvania. Trinity has had the instrument of handbells since 1995.

Handbell ringing is more like being on a team rather than being in a choir.   Each person is responsible for their position but we don't have a "bench".  It's a great musical team adventure.  We have 5 octaves of bells and ideally they could be played by 12 - 13 ringers.  Today we are ringing about half of the bells available to us with 8 people on the team.

If you are interested in this team endeavor please call Judy Schumacher at (503) 648-4318.

Family Bridge Volunteers

Family Bridge provides overnight housing for families who are homeless.  A network of local churches staff a sleeping shelter and provide an evening meal for the families.  While Trinity is not able to provide shelter at this time, we have been asked to provide some of the other needed services.

We would like to provide volunteers to help with this outreach one week at a time on a regular six-week basis.  Please see our Family Bridge page for more information.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Pastor Bruce (503) 640-1693.

Gifts of milk, juice and fruit are appreciated on Sunday and mid-week so families may have something for breakfast.
